Re: Clintwood vs Gate City
I think if you would have read the Bristol paper last Saturday you would have seen that Parks gave the credit to his offensive lineman, or at least some of them. Here is the quote:
Parks credited his offensive line corps of Nathan Brickey, Jon Pope, Jake Jones, and Seth Musick.
``Those guys made my job a lot easier,'' Parks said.
You are correct on a few things but you can't lump the whole line together on this one. Some of the boys are doing a great job. Some are returning ALL District players. I think if you go back and review the film(s)in slow motion, which I have, it is quiet evident where the weaknesses are. Notice in Parks quote that he mentioned only upper classman, 2 seniors and 2 juniors. Keep in mind some of these boys are underclassman and will get better, I hope.
Something else to ponder, Jake Jones (SR) missed the first few games because of his knee, I think he has only played in two games so far. Also, Chase Lane (SR) one of the starting guards has been out for a few weeks with a knee injury. Brickey (JR) has done a yeomans job filling in. Remember Brickey hasn't played since his Freshman year. If I'm not mistaken Musick (JR) and Pope (SR) are the only lineman who haven't missed a game(s) due to injury.
I also played for Coach Fry and you are absolutely correct about the sled. We spent more time there than anywhere, at least it seemed like it at the time. We even had a sled for the backs.
Re: Clintwood vs Gate City
To Copperridge....I just made a general comment on the whole year as to his yardage total. He has had to work very hard for the most part for what he has gotten and if you read my comments, I said most of our lineman not all. We all know who is doing most of the blocking and their mostly former Colts if you know what I mean. As for Park's comments, I believe they were about the JJK game as they did show alittle more emotion and seemed to play more physical. They just need to do that every game. If you read Tyler's comments on the VaHigh game, he blasted everyone and should have. I'll have to say though, when you have to hit and drive that sled everyday, the games seemed like a cakewalk. We just need to get back to GC football, play hard and physical or come and yell with the rest of us.
Re: Clintwood vs Gate City
Parks (Redskins), Brickey (Packers), Pope (Colts), Jake Jones (Rams), Musick (Redskins)
Pope must be the only one blocking. Just kidding, I know what you are getting at.
I think if you look at blocking you also have to consider the lead back. Last year he had Spivey in the backfield leading the way. He doesn't have that this year. Estepp is an underclassman and no where near the size of Spivey. I think if they would play Faulkner (SP) you may see some of the same results. He is a big kid that can bring a load.
Re: Clintwood vs Gate City
Gate City- 28
Clintwood- 21 OT
Re: Clintwood vs Gate City
If Clintwood comes out to play the same kind of game they played against Appalachia, it will be a massacre.
Re: Clintwood vs Gate City
I'll go on record as saying that it's possible, highly possible in my mind that Gate City could end the season at 5-5 at best, 4-6 at the worst. I think no matter what the outcome of the Clintwood game, they'll drop their last 3 games hosting PV, Appy, then @JI Burton. 4-2 right now, going into Clintwood for a trap game of sorts. If they lose, the bottom might just fall out.
I think Clintwood plays inspired football since they're gonna be honoring Justin Hamilton and retiring his jersey at the half. If this game was at GC, I might pick them. I think Clintwood wins by 10. At least. It won't be a defensive contest IMO...I think this will be a high scoring affair with GC throwing the ball well and Clintwood running a combo of Osborne/Rose/Robinson/Robbins at GC that I don't see GC being able to stop.
Re: Clintwood vs Gate City
they are not retiring justin's jersey this weekend.... hes gonna have to stay in cleveland because of a injury.

Yeah I heard he might have to stay. Hadn't heard any definitive word on it though. Even w/o retiring his jersey, I think that they'll come out pumped up to execute correctly and beat GC. Just a feeling I've got--nothing against GC because they have a ton of talent and great coaching--I just think Clintwood's due.
Re: Clintwood vs Gate City
If Clintwood had played well against either Haysi or Appalachia, then I might be expecting an upset here. But, they had problems at time even with Coeburn. I think the half-time score in that game was only something like 14-13, and in the end only won 47-43.
I think Clintwood will be more evenly matched up with Gate City this year than in previous years but not yet on the same page as the Devils.
At any rate, it should be a good game. Good luck to both teams!
Re: Clintwood vs Gate City
Clintwood needs to learn how to win a big game like this (IMHO the Clintwood team has grown up alot since the Haysi and Appy games and if they were to be lucky enought to get another crack at Haysi I think that they would make a better showing of themselfs)
Big game for Both Clintwood and GC I hope both teams play well (just hope Clintwood plays a bit better LOL)
